The Witching Hour

Halloween has come and gone. Along with Thanksgiving. We are well on our way to Christmas and I have been really bad about posting to this blog. I had to do something though, because I couldn't look at old Georgie Doofus for much longer. So, I am posting this picture of the cutest witches in the world and will update the Badberg saga soon! Say goodnight Gracie......

Politics with a Grain of Salt

Just think, if we could actually vote the democrats a majority in the house and senate, you just might spot 'ol Georgie boy whooping it up with Lindsay, Paris and the ladies at an LA Hot Spot because he and his band of idiots won't be able to continue to flush this country down the toilet!

Please get out and vote!!

As for Utah, "your thinking has been done" by an idiot! Use you head! Let's vote for some people who actually want to make a difference, who are not on some moral crusade or who just want to make money and have powerful connections. Think education, mass-transportation, water, the environment. You know things that matter and will matter in the long term. After all, do we really want a bunch of utah educated, idiots (our grandchildren) stuck in an endless traffic jam shrouded in a mercury/carbon monoxide soup paying $1,000.00 for a glass of water?

Just because there is a 'R' attached to the candidates name does not automatically mean that they are 1. Fiscally conservative or responsible (national debt reaches in the trillions-yes and China Owns us) 2. Going to save us from the terriorists (no terrorists in Iraq but lots of oil and Haliburton Trucks) 3. Christian and Moral, see Tom Delay, Foley and anyone remotely connected to Abramoff and lest we forget that little issue about torture.

We need politicians wo are willing to actually make a differnce and DO SOMETHING: Social Security, Health Care/Insurance, Immigration, the War in Iraq, Global Warming, Our dependence on Fossil Fuels, The environment, The National Debt. I could go on for a while huh?

Well, let's get to the polls and make some needed changes. Besides 'ol Georgie Boy looks much cuter in a hip dress at a Martini Bar than in a flight suit on the deck of a military cruiser don't you think. Maybe a little mor bling.

Say goodnight Gracie.....

Alpine Loop Autum Adventure

Gracie had a fun school project to collect different Autum leaves, enjoy the change of seasons with all that comes with it. What a great opportunity for the family to pile into the cruiser and take "The Alpine Loop" last Saturday. As you can see, the colors were amazing! We took a short hike where Tim found the perfect walking sticks. Handles and everything. He truely is the man who can find anything! We stopped at Sundance Resort (no sign of Bob) where Gracie took her first chair-lift ride. The name of the chair was "Ray's Chair", what are the odds! It was a beautiful although interminable ride. We also learned that Gracie has a tendency toward motion sickness just like her Daddy. Luckily, we didn't have anyone blow chunks off the lift. There was an awfull lot of spitting though. Thanks Daddy! After the ride we went into the resort for an ice-cream cone and a hot chocolate. Or as Gracie said, "It's a latte mamma!" It was such a great Saturday! Hopefully, I won't be posting snow day pictures anytime soon! Love to you all! Say Goodnight Gracie...

First Day of School

Well, our little bean has started kindergarten! She had her first, full day last Thursday, September 23rd. She is enrolled in the 'all day' program at Channing Hall. She LOVES it! So proud to be grown-up and going to school just like all her friends! And it's about time! It has been a long few weeks finding things to do because all her friends were in school, hers wasn't completed (construction was delayed) and that she couldn't call a friend to play until later in the afternoons. It's funny, I used to wonder why my Mom, come fall always made the statement, "Will school ever start?!" Now I understand. and I appreciate her even more. I was dealing with one bored child. She had four little monsters!! Yikes!

What a great teacher she has too! Mrs. Petersen. The first time I met her, I was reminded of something Maya Angelou had said once. I am paraphrasing so forgive me. But, she said that when our children walk into the room, our (parent, teacher) eyes should light up and they should feel as they are the most important person in the world. The first time Gracie and I met Mrs. Petersen, as we both walked into the room, Mrs. Petersen did just what Maya Angelou describes to Gracie (i was ushered to a table int the corner). I knew at that momemt that Gracie was lucky to have a great teacher!

One of the first days the class baked a big gingerbread man. When they went to the oven to get him out, he had run away! A few days later after the kids had left him a note to come back (really a trap) and when he did, they ate him! What a fun and clever activity! So, this year should be a good one! We are all excited and will keep you all posted of progress, events, even trials and tribulations! Love to all! Say Goodnight Gracie!

30 August 2006

Well, Fall has officially arrived. A time of change and WOW we have seen some big changes here at the Badberg's! Gracie lost her first tooth August 21st!

Her two bottom front teeth have been loose for a week or so. But, as of Monday evening, one of them wasn't just loose. But, ready to come out. With a little help from Daddy. Twisting and tugging, the tooth finally came out! There was a little blood and a few tears. But, the excitement far outwayed any pain or discomfort.

Gracie was so excited that she had finally lost a tooth. The tooth fairy visited her that night too! Setting the bar a little too high, there was a new, crisp, pixie-dusted five dollar bill under her pillow in the morning! She is taking her new 'grown-up' status quite seriously! She has returned to her big girl bed in her own room and is attempting to sleep all night in panties instead of pull-ups! When she decides to be a 'big girl' she pulls out all the stops!

Another milestone, Gracie had her ears pierced! How times have changed! I had to wait until I was thirteen years old before I was able to have my ears pierced. The other day we had a house full of girls. Most of Gracie's friends-Little Rachael, Big Rachel, Annika and Shalissa. They were all talking about and looking at their earrings. Gracie was the only one of the bunch without. I know, I may have set a dangerous precedence. "But Mamma, All my friends have their ears prieced." So, hopefully I haven't shot myself in the foot for the next time when all of her firends want to get a tatoo or jump off a cliff! Whish me luck! The actual piercing went off with out a hitch! We had the girls at the shop 'tag team' her (good advice from a few friends) so their was only a split second where there was any pain. She was so brave! Her eyes filled up with tears. But, they never spilled over! Our next milestone will be here soon enough. Gracie starts kindergarten in a couple of weeks. We are excited and nervous! Will keep you all posted as we get closer as well as let you in on any new events.

So, until next time.

Say Goodnight Gracie!

Has it really been twenty years?

Well, it has been twenty years since high school graduation. Hard to believe twenty years have passed. Yeah, look how hot we look! A group of friends (Missy Hughes, Kat Weron, Sherrie Dahl and Meg Morrison, not pictured) all met for a pre party before the dinner. Actually, we should have skipped the dinner altogether and stayed at Sherrie's house. It was good to see some of the old classmates. But, it was our small group that I was interested in catching up with. Not the cheerleader squad or the football heros. So, hopefully in the next few years we can all ry to keep in touch and plan some mini renunions! Take care all.

Goodbye to an Old Friend

I'll lend you for a little while
A very grand dog, He said,
For you to love while he's alive
And mourn for when he's dead.

It may be one or seven years,
Or only two or three,
But, will you, till I take him back
Take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charm to gladden you.
And should his stay be brief,
You'll have very special memories
As solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from Earth return.
But, there are lessons taught on Earth
I want this dog to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes
I have selected you.

Now will you give him lots of love?
Nor think the labor vain
Nor hate Me when I come
To take him back again?

I know you'll give him tenderness
And love him while you may.
And for the happiness you've known
Froever grateful stay.

But should I come and call for him
Much sooner than you planned,
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.

Many of you may have heard, some may have not, But, our old friend Boolie has passed. Our Brave little fighter couldn't fight any more. The cancer that had taken his leg years ago came back. Just like the tough little man he was, he tried. But it was just too agressive. In the end we chose to 'pay forward' all the unconditional love he had given us over the years. He is at rest now, with no pain. Tuesday, as the rains fell and the skies were cloudy, Boolie went on to find Noah, Casey, Brandy and other friends that have gone before us. Later that day, he sent us some of the sunshine he always loved to 'warm his old bones.'
Thank you Boolie for all your licks and love. You were the best friend and companion. You will always be missed. But, always be in our hearts! We love you!

Hello! Anyone Home?

Where have you been? Okay, it's summer and I have been too busy to post. Yeah, right! Just like everything else, I need to make time. So forgive me.

Today is the first of August! Today, looking out the window, I would think summer is over. It's in the mid sixties, raining, thunder and lightning. Seems more like September than August. Nice change from the heat though! At least for a while. They say the heat will return later this week.

Checked my email this morning and Tim had sent some pictures from Tahoe. Lucky guy huh? He's there playing golf with some clients and colleagues. Hope it's not raining for them. He says it is remarkably beautiful there and one day he wants to take Gracie and me. Hope he has fun and plays well. Or just has fun!!! But, not as much fun as he had on his trip to California. The day before he came home he emailed me pictures of the Card Girls from a fight he had attended. No, I wont be posting them here (too racy for the 'family' blog)! The next time I hear from him, the flight home has been diverted to Vegas and he is being taken by ambulance to the hospital to be treated for severe dehydration and heat exhaustion. So, I ask you...was he really sick or did those lovely (and I use the term loosely, a word more appropriate) ladies (again) need a chapperone back to Vegas? I guess it is true. "What happens in Vegas....." Really, he was very sick and we were so worried. He was able to come home the next morning and is on the mend. So remember to drink lots of fluids!!!

Gracie is so very excited to start Kindergarten in a little over a month. Her school is being built and they are fast tracking it to complete by September. We need to begin school shopping soon. Luckily (at least Mom is happy) she will be wearing a uniform, so they shopping should be pretty simple. She is most excited about the backpack she has chosen. Purple of course! And her lunch box. Again, purple. She is going to do the full day kindergarten. Hopefully, I will handle it as well as she does! Her best friend "Lil' Rachael" started school this morning and Gracie was a little blue! But, these two have had a great time together this summer! Evidence in the picture of our little Pop Stars! She also has had many adventures with Jackson, "Big Rachel", Sammy, Annika, Bekah, Ruthie and Elizebeth! Enjoy some of the pictures of the summer we've had so far!

Mamma has had a busy summer as well. I have been donating some time to Channing Hall (Gracie's new school). I am working as a liason between the Channing Board of Directors and the Construction Co. and Architect. So, some of my previous professional skills haven't gone completely out the door since I have been home growing Gracie. We have also made a few trips to the pool, the zoo, park and of course lots of bike riding! And, Mamma is getting older! Her 20 year reunion is this weekend. Yikes! Actually, it will be a great time to catch up with some of the friends that I haven't seen in awhile and those I don't see often enough!

Enjoy the pics and I will try to post sooner than later!!!

Too Hot to Do Anything

Current temperature in Draper is 102, it is a red alert day. Basically, stay inside because the ozone is toxic! We can venture outside at dawn and dusk because then the ozone won't be too bad. But, make sure you are covered with mosquito repellant (with DEET) because we don't want to get West Nile virus! And don't forget, if you see any dead birds in your yard...watch out for Bird flu! What a fun summer!

Actually, this summer has indeed been fun and last night was the epitome of a great summer night. We went over to Jason and Jen's to visit for a bit while the girls rode their new 'big girl' bikes. While the girls played, Tim, Jason, Jen and I laughed, talked and did an insightful quiz on love language! Jen laid out the table with all kinds of goodies: chips and homemade salsa, Bear Lake ice cream, shrimp, nuts and fresh margharitas(v)! We all pigged out, I threw up in the grass (no really and I had only had 1/2 a beer). Then as the sun set, we layed out on the blankets and looked at the stars! Jason put on some great music, which we all took our turns tearing up. Thanks, Jason!! What a beautiful, fun memorable summer night. We are lucky to have such great friends and neighbors!

Girls of Summer

I wish that I had had a camera with me or a cell phone that takes pics. A friend of mine, Jen and her three girls ('lil Rachael, Bekah and Ruthie) kidnapped Gracie and me to make a mad dash for ice cream and diet cokes. Yes it was hot today! But, any excuse will do when it comes to ice cream right? Well with the girls happy as kids can be in the backseat Jen said, "Let's go up to my Dad's so that I can show you the cool kiddie pool and the girls can dip their toes into the water. My Dad is out of town. But, I'm sure the gate is open!" It all sounds so innocent-a break-in to swim, no strings attached! Well, Luckily the gate was unlocked. What an amazing backyard. Oh, and it's not just a kiddie pool. It's a miniature replica of the Playboy mansion's pool. Complete with a slide and a grotto!!! Well, the girls were tempted beyond control and soon it wasn't just toes. To the knees-then just below the bottom, and then all havoc broke loose. They were swimming and sliding! Splashing and having a great time! Only problem, they weren't in their suits. But, their clothes and now soaked through and through! So, the only solution to get them home without soaking Jen's car seats? Well, of course strip them naked! So, we did just that and laughed our heads off as they ran, bare ass naked to the car parked out front! As we drove home Jen and I just laughed, looking in the back seat at three, happy, cold naked girls-now this is what summer is all about!

First Beanblog

July, 11, Tuesday at the Badberg's. This is my first post, so bear with me. Gracie and Jackson (a friend) have built quite an extensive fort in the living room for them and the newest addition to our family-Isabelle. Don't get too excited...not humine, but feline (see picture). I have let them have their way with the living room, all the blankets they could find and a few scattered chairs and tables. There is a method to my madness-I wanted to get this blog up and rolling!

I decided to create one in order to keep all the far strung and busy friends and family up-to-date. I don't know if this is the best forum. But, it sounded like a good idea at the time and a podcast was way too complicated for my small little mind! But, never say never! I may be downloadable to your mp3 sooner than you think. Okay stop with the panic. There won't be any stream in the near future unless it is a trout stream!

Please feel free to joing in anytime too. Post your thought, and any news about your family and friends. I think this will be fun

Til tomorrow.
Say goodnight Gracie.....
